Welcome Tour Innsbruck with Per Pedes

by Hotel Sailer

Anyone visiting Innsbruck often faces the same question: Where should I start? That’s exactly where the Welcome Tour by Per Pedes comes in. This approximately one-hour city walk takes place regularly several times a week—three times weekly in winter and even daily during summer—and offers the perfect introduction to the Tyrolean capital.

Compact, informative, and personally guided, the tour combines historical highlights with fascinating background stories and practical tips for the rest of your stay. It’s ideal for anyone who wants to get a first overview while also diving a little deeper into Innsbruck’s history.

Meeting Point at the Tourist Information

We started at the Innsbruck Information in the hall at Burggraben 3, where we were warmly welcomed by our guide for the day, Verena. After a short introduction, we set off towards the city center.

Starting at Maria-Theresien-Straße

Our first stop was the lively Maria-Theresien-Straße. Here we received current insights about the city, interesting background information about Innsbruck’s development, and our first glimpse into the historical heritage that still shapes the city today.

Through the Historic Old Town

From there, we continued through the winding streets of the Old Town. Passing by Innsbruck’s historic first ladies’ café and the so-called “Vier-Viecher-Eck,” we eventually reached the famous Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) – the city’s landmark and a symbol of its glorious past under Emperor Maximilian I.

Visit to St. James’ Cathedral

Afterwards, we visited the impressive St. James’ Cathedral (Dom zu St. Jakob). The baroque interior stands out with its intricate details and unique atmosphere – a moment of calm in the middle of the city walk.

A Look at the Imperial Palace

To conclude the tour, we made a short stop in the courtyard of the Innsbruck Imperial Palace (Hofburg). Here, you can once again clearly feel the Habsburg heritage that has shaped Innsbruck so strongly.

After this final stop, the group slowly dispersed – the perfect moment to let the impressions sink in and continue exploring Innsbruck on your own.
