Stubaitalbahn from Innsbruck to the Stubai Valley: the most beautiful tram ride in Tyrol

by Hotel Sailer

Sometimes, it does not take a big journey to truly experience Tyrol — sometimes, a tram ride is enough.

In just about one hour, the Stubaitalbahn takes you directly from Innsbruck into the Stubai Valley. As the city slowly fades into the background, forests, mountains, and impressive Alpine panoramas begin to open up.

The Stubaitalbahn is considered one of the most beautiful tram routes in Tyrol and combines urban life with Alpine nature — without complicated planning, but with the feeling of a real little adventure.

Starting in Innsbruck: just a few minutes from Hotel Sailer

The Stubaitalbahn departs from Innsbruck Central Station and can be reached from Hotel Sailer in just about a 5-minute walk. With Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe, you can travel comfortably and without changing trains directly into the Stubai Valley from here.

From the city into the Alps

The ride on the Stubaitalbahn begins within the city limits of Innsbruck, but after a short time the scenery changes noticeably. Buildings give way to green meadows, while forests and mountains draw ever closer.

The route from Innsbruck into the Stubai Valley passes through one of Tyrol’s most beautiful Alpine landscapes, making the tram ride itself a truly special experience.

With every stop, it becomes quieter, wider, and more open. The journey slows the pace — and that is exactly where its special charm lies.

Stopover in Mutters: nature up close

One of the most beautiful stops along the Stubaitalbahn is the village of Mutters, not far from Innsbruck. Shortly after departure, it becomes clear how quickly the surroundings change: within about 30 minutes, the route takes you from the urban area of Innsbruck into a quieter, greener Alpine landscape.

Mutters is the perfect place for a short stopover — whether for a walk or a small hike with mountain views. Afterwards, you can continue the journey at a relaxed pace and travel further towards the Stubai Valley.

Arrival in Fulpmes in the Stubai Valley

At the end of the line, you arrive in Fulpmes — one of the best-known villages in the Stubai Valley. By this point at the latest, it becomes clear how far you have travelled from city life in Innsbruck in such a short time.

Whether for a stroll through the village, a hike, or simply to enjoy the mountain scenery, Fulpmes is the perfect ending to this special tram ride.
